(Master Content Pillars)

Hey Growthlink Community!

Are you using educational, inspirational, and promotional as your content pillars?

Now, it’s time to stop doing this.

Content pillars are your magic wand for organizing content creation. They help you post strategically, so no more posting just for the sake of it.

Content pillars align your content with your business goals.

Education, inspiration, and promotion are content goals, not pillars.

Moreover, avoid posting content from other experts as your pillars.

This is not a good practice at all.

So, what are content pillars?

Content pillars are specific categories for your content.

They ensure your messaging is consistent.

Every piece of content I post on LinkedIn aligns with one of my five content pillars:

  1. Post Breakdown

  2. Authentic Content

  3. Content Formatting

  4. Client Results with Content

  5. Bold Opinions about LinkedIn & Content

Your content pillars should align with your audience, business, and overall goals.

Let’s say you’re the founder of an email marketing agency. Your five content pillars could be:

  1. Effective CTAs

  2. Subject Line Tips

  3. Client Success Stories

  4. Email Design Strategies

  5. Bold Opinions on Email Marketing

Creating Your Content Pillars

Here’s how you can create your content pillars:

  1. Visit Your Analytics: Check your top-performing posts.

  2. Analyze Metrics: Look at impressions, engagements, and reposts.

  3. Identify Patterns: Find what content is performing the highest.

For me, bold opinions about LinkedIn in text-based posts with my picture perform really well.

Look at the subject matter within your top posts and start jotting down those content ideas in a Google sheet.

Organize Your Ideas

Once you have your ideas, think about all the topics related to your expertise.

List at least 30 content ideas on the same Google sheet. (Example of email marketing agency founder)

Then, start categorizing them together. For example, as an email marketing agency founder, if you talk about choosing the right CTA, A/B testing CTA, and CTA makeover, these fit into a category of Effective CTAs.

Visualize Your Content Pillars

Use different colors in the Google sheet to categorize them. For example, fill in yellow for Effective CTAs.

This helps you see patterns in those content ideas, eventually helping you formulate your content pillars. Pick 5 different colors for each content pillar.

Categorizing content aligns each post with business goals and audience needs.

This makes your LinkedIn presence stronger and more strategic.

And that’s it.
